Lee Westwood Putting Grip

Lee Westwood has been playing some amazing golf this year and one reason is a change in his putting grip. This change in putting grip was from advice by Putting Tips guru Dave Stockton.

When they started working together this year, Stockton sensed that Westwood was wearing out the rubber of his putting grip, because he was so tense over the ball.

Stockton just asked Westwood to ease the pressure on his putting grip: And the results have been coming. Lee Westwood putting stroke has got better and his short game has got lower.

Dave Stockton says, putting grip is not rocket science, He advices,

Grip the putter any way you like, as long as it doesn’t hinder your left hand’s role in the stroke. But make sure to grip the club in your fingers. The shaft should run up the lifeline of your left hand for clubface control, but your fingers must contact the grip (right). You can drop the right forefinger down the shaft, but don’t steer with it. Forget about what your palms are doing. Fingers equal feel. Source, Golf Digest.

Advantage of Lead Tape On Putter

Our Golf Tip of the day is how to improve your putting stroke by adding lead tape on your putter. Lead tape adds weight to the putter and this helps to keep the wrists firmer through the putting stroke.

Even Tiger Woods has reportedly said that he has put some lead tape on his putter. He has stated, “It’s always worked in the past.”

So if you feel you are unable to firmly grip your putter because, you have weak hands or sweaty hands you may consider adding lead tape on your putter.

Remember to make a correct putting stroke you need keep the wrists firm through the putting stroke. Lead tape on putter will help you get that firm grip when putting.

Phil Mickelson Putting Grip Photo

Phil Mickelson putting grip was developed in association with Dave Stockton, known as one of the games greatest putter. The following is a picture demonstration of Phil Mickelson Putting Grip.

His old putting method overlapped the index finger of his lead hand over the knuckles of his trail hand as many golfers do. But according to Stockton, the straight finger creates tension all the way up your lead arm. Stockton alleviated the tension by adding a crook or a bend in the overlapping finger. Tiger Woods Putting Grip

Tiger Woods has the putting stroke in the game. There are many reasons why he putts so well and one reason is his putting stroke and putting grip.

In an interview with Golf Digest Tiger Woods shared his putting tips, he described his putting grip,

“My grip is conventional. The handle runs under the butt of my left hand, and the back of my right hand is parallel to my left. I position both thumbs directly down the top of the handle, and my left forefinger lies across the fingers of my right hand, to provide unity.”

Best Putting Posture

A good body posture is key to make better putts. So if you want to improve on your putting, work on your body posture.

The best demonstration of a putting posture is by Luke Donald. He emphasis the need to work on eyes, hands and shoulder position.

You have to have your eyes directly above the ball tracing straight lines to the hole. Your hands should be falling just below your shoulders, straight below your shoulders because the arc of a putting stroke is determined where your hands are. If your hands are outside the plane of your shoulders, you’re going to have more of an arced putting stroke. If you get it too far in, it’s going to make the putting stroke go out.

So you want it somewhere in the middle where your hands are hanging right beneath your shoulders.

Luke Donald Putting Tips

In an interview with PGA TOUR website, Luke Donald shared putting tips on how to make better putts.

Three Tips To Better Putts

  1. Feel and believe you are good putter – The more confident you are the better putts you will make.
  2. Good putting posture.
  3. Grip should focus on your palms not the fingers.

Luke Donald demonstrated how to position your body to make better putts

What I tell most amateurs, it’s all in the setup.

And then the third thing, I think, is grip. Grip is a putting stroke is very different to hitting shots. When you’re hitting golf shots, it’s more in the fingers, and putting you want it more in the palms. So you keep that club face square to the target.
