Set Up That Will Help Make A Solid Chip Shot

The key to make a solid chip shot is to avoid a bad set up that leads to flipping of your wrists that causes going underneath the ball. The key when it comes to making sold chip shot is use your shoulders when striking the ball

The following video demonstrates how to keep your wrist firm and avoid flipping your hands during impact. When your hands flips that is when your chipping goes wrong, the shot can go to the left instead of forward.

Jack Nicklaus Putter 1986

Jack Nicklaus’ was one of the greatest putter’s in the game. He one-putted six of the final nine greens at the 1986 Masters to roar from eight spots back to claim his record-setting 18th major.

I was curious what putter was used by Jack Nicklaus during this famous win. I discovered Jack Nicklaus won the Masters using MacGregor’s Response ZT putter, designed by the legendary club designer Clay Long.

Although the company had planned to sell only 6,000 for the year, the day after Nicklaus’ victory they were deluged with 5,000 orders. They sold 300,000 that year.

Jack Nicklaus famous quote was “I’m one of the greatest two-putters,” he once said. The Golden Bear often plotted to avoid three-putting before doing anything else.

Jack Nicklaus Putter MacGregor’s Response ZT 615

The putter was odd-looking, with an oversized aluminum head. When designer Clay Long first showed it to Nicklaus in July, 1985, he asked “Is this a joke?”. Nicklaus almost abandoned the club after missing the cut for the Honda Classic that year, due to the large but lightweight club’s sensitivity to wind gusts which caused him to miss a six inch putt. However, he had the head weighted with lead for a heavier “feel” and went on to perform spectacularly with it in the Masters.

Dustin Johnson Golf Swing Analysis

Dustin Johnson has one of the longest golf drive in PGA. According to NBC golf ranking analysis, Dustin Johnson is ranked number one in longest driver.

He’s drives it long and it is not a matter of golf driver Dustin Johnson uses (Dustin Golf driver is Taylormade R9), the boy has big advantages going for him, he’s tall, has long arms and is super-athletic. You add those four factors and you have the longest golf driver in PGA.

Dustin Johnson Golf Swing analysis

if you watch Dustin Johnson in action you will see, Dustin make a free uninhibited motion to the top of his swing. He makes a great shoulder turn while keeping a consistent spine angle.  He extends the clubhead away from the ball as well, which gives him a giant swing arc. And he actually goes a little old school at the top of his swing with an upright arm plane. All of these factors add up to a lot of distance.
